Sunbaked

There are places in Africa where the earth seems to glow from within. Long after the heat of the day has passed, the ground still holds the memory of the sun. Sunbaked was born from those landscapes—weathered rock, dusty roads and grasses softened by golden light, where every surface tells a story shaped slowly over time.

Built by hand through layers of sculptural texture, the painting has an almost geological presence. Natural earth pigments sourced from the KwaZulu-Natal coastline are embedded within the surface, creating a tangible connection between the artwork and the landscape that inspired it. As light moves across the raised forms, new shadows emerge and the painting quietly transforms throughout the day.
