Built with rich, sculptural layers of texture, the surface catches and reflects light throughout the day, revealing new details from every angle. Vibrant magentas, emerald greens, deep blues and expressive mark-making create a dynamic composition that balances movement with moments of stillness, inviting the viewer to discover new pathways and connections with every viewing.
The Story Behind the Commission
Commissioned by Investec, Butterfly Effect was created to celebrate the extraordinary impact of everyday actions.
Inspired by the butterfly effect—the idea that small, intentional actions can create far-reaching change—the painting became the centrepiece of Investec's employee recognition celebration. Rather than simply decorating a space, the work was commissioned to embody the values of integrity, connection, leadership and purpose.
At the awards evening, a five-minute film sharing the story behind the painting and its creation was presented on the big screen before the original artwork was unveiled. Seven employees, nominated by their colleagues for consistently creating positive impact through their everyday actions, were each presented with a fine art print of Butterfly Effect in recognition of the way they lived out these values.
The original painting now hangs in Investec's head office in Sandton, Johannesburg, where it continues to reflect the values and purpose that inspired its creation—a lasting reminder that extraordinary impact begins with small, intentional actions.
